Sri Prasanna Varadaraja Perumal Temple is located in Shoolagiri in Krishnagiri District, Tamilnadu. This temple is an ancient and a reputed Vishnu temple. The temple is present at the basement of the Shoolagiri hill itself. This temple dates back to Dwapara Yuga. Arjuna consecrated this temple during the exile period in Mahabharata time. This temple is referred to as ‘Dakshina Vaikuntam Hasthashyla Sree Kshethram’ (Vaikunatam of the South).
Sri Prasanna Varadaraja Perumal graces devotees in a majestic standing position by facing west direction and is seven feet tall. Thaayar Perundevi Mahalakshmi graces devotees by facing east direction in a separate sanctum. Lord Hanuman is present in the right side of the Maha mantapam. The temple has been built in such a way that the Lord Prasanna Varadaraja Perumal seems to be appearing bigger in size when one moves far from the Garbha Graha. The sculptural beauty of the pillars in the Mantapam is amazing.
This is a temple of sun worship. Every year during the Utharanyana period (mid of January to mid of July), one can have the darshan of the rays of Sun worshiping the feet of the Lord Prasanna Varadaraja Perumal in this temple, during sun set.
